Founded in 1976, the Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited (GNSC) is one of Guyana's leading shipping and logistics companies, with over five decades of experience serving the country's maritime industry. From its terminal at La Penitence, GNSC provides a complete range of services, including shipping agency, stevedoring, warehousing, terminal operations, customs brokerage, and marine insurance as Guyana's only Lloyd's of London agent. With an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system and an ISPS-certified terminal, GNSC supports the vessel operators, shipping agents, and project teams behind Guyana's fast-growing oil & gas, construction, and manufacturing sectors.

The Challenge

As Guyana's economy expanded, the demands on its port operations grew with it, but GNSC's customer-facing processes hadn't kept pace. Berth applications for the La Penitence Terminal still relied on paper forms and in-person office visits, which made it hard for applicants to submit outside business hours, catch errors before filing, or know where their application stood once it was submitted. Every follow-up meant a phone call or a visit, and incomplete forms could hold up decisions on time-sensitive vessel schedules.

At the same time, GNSC's existing website no longer reflected the scale and capability of the organization. Customers had no single, reliable place to find service information, company updates, or a clear way to get in touch. GNSC needed a modern digital presence and a faster, more transparent way to manage berth applications.

The Solution

In collaboration with King Advertising Limited, Housty Designs delivered two connected solutions: a fully redesigned website and a new Vessel Berth Application Portal.

The redesigned gnsc.gy now serves as GNSC's central digital hub, giving customers clear access to service information, company news, and general inquiries, with a design that reflects GNSC's five-decade legacy and its role in Guyana's industrial growth.

The Vessel Berth Application Portal moves the entire berth application process online. Applicants create a free account, complete the same six sections as the original paper form, sign on screen, and submit from anywhere, at any time. Built-in validation catches errors such as invalid IMO numbers or past dates before submission, and every application receives an instant reference number. Applicants can track their status in real time, while GNSC's Terminal Manager and Managing Director review and decide applications through a structured digital workflow. If a preferred date isn't available, the application is held as pending rather than rejected, and applicants are notified of every outcome by email and in their account, with a clear path to resubmit if corrections are needed.

The platform is secured with protected passwords, account lockout after repeated failed login attempts, encrypted connections, and a full audit trail, giving GNSC and its customers confidence in every transaction.

The result is less paperwork and admin for GNSC's team, and a faster, more transparent experience for the shipping agents and vessel operators who depend on the La Penitence Terminal every day.
